Compulsory vaccination: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has spoken out in the Bundestag about the compulsory vaccination : He hopes for a quick consultation in the Bundestag about a general compulsory vaccination against the coronavirus.

“In any case, I think it is necessary and will actively work for it, ” said the SPD politician in the Bundestag on Wednesday. He also outlined how he envisions compulsory vaccination: “It should be about all adults,” he said.

German Chancellor Scholz: “Not to be vaccinated is not a personal decision”

The German Chancellor emphasized that not to be vaccinated is not a personal decision, but has consequences for the whole country. Most recently, hospitals had to cancel operations to make room for the many corona patients. You don’t just make a decision for yourself, but for 80 million others.

▶ “This is not a decision that you make for yourself, and that is why compulsory vaccination is also important,” emphasized Chancellor Scholz.

At the same time, the Federal Chancellor acknowledged the increase in the corona numbers. One must assume that the number of infections with the Omicron variant will soon increase significantly. That is a reason to continue the cautious corona course that has been taken so far.

SPD presents schedule: FDP parliamentary group leader proposes “compulsory vaccination on trial”

The coalition of the SPD, FDP and the Greens is planning a free vote without parliamentary group specifications on compulsory vaccination. Greens parliamentary group leader Britta Haßelmann said on ZDF on Wednesday: “We are in talks with other members of other parliamentary groups in order to determine the key points.” After an “orientation debate” in the Bundestag in the week from January 24th, she reckons that Parliament will “be confronted with several group motions very quickly”.

SPD parliamentary group leader Rolf Mützenich has announced a specific proposal from the SPD for the end of January . This should be the basis for a group proposal together with parliamentarians from other groups. Chancellor Scholz had named the introduction of compulsory vaccinations by the beginning of February or the beginning of March as a goal , the SPD a resolution “in the first quarter” as a time frame. The opposition Union, on the other hand, is calling for the government to draft its own law.

FDP parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr suggested examining a “compulsory vaccination on trial “. “The vaccination requirement could only be introduced for a limited period, for example for a year,” he told the “Rheinische Post”. But he has not yet committed himself. The parliamentary managing director of the AfD parliamentary group, Stephan Brandner, announced his own AfD application against the introduction of compulsory vaccinations.

“Compulsory vaccination means compulsory debate”

In the struggle for a general compulsory corona vaccination, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has called for a careful discussion.

“Such an extraordinary measure also puts our state in an extraordinary duty before its citizens. In short: compulsory vaccination means compulsory debate, ” said the head of state on Wednesday in Berlin. The schedule and the procedure will be discussed further in the deliberations in the Bundestag.
