REBELLION IN BAVARIA: Romantic Christmas market opened in Regensburg JUST after closures were announced!

The Romantic Christmas market opened in the courtyard of Thurn und Taxis Castle in Regensburg on Friday evening – just a few hours after state Premier Markus Söder (CSU) announced that Christmas markets in Bavaria would be canceled.

The “Romantic Christmas Market”, the Regensburg Christmas market organizer Peter Kittel had the following justification:

▶ Existing contracts with 120 stand operators, artists and technicians.

▶ The city has a valid approval for the market. It is not about rebellion and also not about denying the corona pandemic.

▶ Very strict 2G rules (vaccinated and recovered) would be implemented, one would be outdoors and on spacious, continuously fenced-off private property. “We do not understand that a football game can take place with spectators, but our market is called into question,” said Kittel. It is about many existences.

The Christmas market hostess, Gloria Fürstin von Thurn und Taxis, was not present at the opening.

Compared to non-Corona years, significantly fewer visitors came to the opening.

After consultations with the CSU-Free Voter Coalition in Munich, Söder announced on Friday afternoon that all Christmas markets would be canceled. “We had actually hoped that the organizers would have this understanding themselves.” The new package should finally be decided in the cabinet on Tuesday and then discussed in the state parliament – this is necessary for such cuts, said Söder. All measures should then come into effect on Wednesday night. Until then, nothing legally stands in the way of organizing markets.

The Romantic Christmas Market at Thurn und Taxis Castle is a Christmas market that has been held in Regensburg at St. Emmeram Castle by the Thurn and Taxis family since 2001. It is held annually from the end of November throughout the entire period of Advent up to and including December 23rd.

Christmas in Bavaria: “Romantic Christmas Market” at Thurn und Taxis Castle has valid approval for opening

The approval authority is the city of Regensburg, said Kittel. There is a valid authorization for the opening on Friday. Very strict 2G rules would be implemented on the market with great effort, so access is only given to those who have been vaccinated or who have recovered with appropriate certified evidence.

In addition, the visitors are in the fresh air and on spacious, continuously fenced-off private property. “We do not understand that a football game can take place with spectators, but our market is called into question,” said Kittel. There were very many livelihoods on the market. There are 120 stand operators there.

History of the romantic Christmas market

Located in the heart of Bavaria, the cathedral city of Regensburg, is the headquarters of the world-famous noble family Thurn and Taxis

In the Advent season, the impressive property invites you to a princely Christmas stroll on one of the most beautiful Christmas markets. The romantic atmosphere of the St. Emmeran Castle with its wonderful park, the imposing architecture and the picturesque inner courtyard is hard to beat.

Thousands of visitors are drawn under the spell of horse-drawn carriages, noblemen and court ladies every year and enjoy the incomparable flair. The inner courtyard shines with thousands of lights, candles, lanterns and torches in an atmospheric, Christmassy light.

In the middle of the lovingly decorated village of wooden houses decorated for Christmas, a mighty, splendid Christmas tree sits enthroned and spreads the spirit of Advent.
