Where can I apply for a Germany visa in Turkey?

To enter Germany from Turkey, you need a visa, which one of the German diplomatic missions in Turkey will give you :

  • the German embassy in Ankara
  • the German Consulate General in Istanbul
  • the German Consulate General in Izmir

Important to know: The German consulate in Antalya does not accept visa applications!

Which Germany visa from Turkey is right for me?

Which Germany visa you have to apply for in Turkey depends on the purpose of your trip and of course also on the duration. As a tourist or business traveler, do you only come to the Schengen area for a short time? 

Are you planning to study or start a job? Or do you just need a transit visa in order to be able to make a stop in Germany on your way through. We will show you the different types of visas for Germany that you can apply for as a Turkish citizen.

1. German visa for Turks: The C-Visa Germany

The most common visa for entry from Turkey to Germany is the Schengen type C visa. This visa entitles you to stay in Germany and in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days within a period of 180 days. The C-Visa Germany is therefore perfect for short stays, such as family visits, business trips, medical interventions and tourist trips .

2. German visa for Turks: The D-Visa Germany

If you want to stay longer than 90 days, you need a type D Schengen visa, also known as a national visa . Therefore, the D-Visa Germany is mainly applied for if you intend to study or take up work or if you are planning to reunite your family. The national visa entitles you to long-term residence in Germany, as it can be converted into a residence permit.

What do you need for an invitation from Turkey to Germany?

If you are planning to enter Germany from Turkey to visit family or friends, then it is a visitor’s visa . In this case, a letter of invitation is required, which is submitted with the visa application. The invitation can be issued in simple written form. The form is of secondary importance, primarily about the content.

Remember: an invitation letter is also necessary for a business trip! The entry of Turkey to Germany can both residential and business nature be and must be justified with a letter of invitation.

What documents do I need for a Germany visa from Turkey?

People aged 18 and over must apply for their visa in person . A Germany visa for Turks generally requires the following documents:

  • valid passport that was issued in the last few years (i.e. no extension) and is valid for at least three months beyond the planned travel period. In addition, two pages should still be free.
  • biometric photo in the size of 45 x 35 mm, which shows you frontally without headgear and without eye covering and which is not older than six months.
  • Information about the purpose of the trip
  • if necessary, letters of invitation for visits
  • Proof of sufficient financial means for the trip
  • Proof of economic and family circumstances in Turkey
  • Proof of travel health insurance for the planned travel period with a minimum coverage of 30,000 euros

As a Turkish citizen, when do I have to submit the visa application for Germany?

If you are applying for a category C short-term visa in Turkey, please remember to apply for your visa at least 15 days before departure so that it can be processed in good time. Please note that for German diplomatic missions in Turkey, both German and Turkish public holidays can delay the processing of your visa application! 

If you can, you can submit your application three months before departure – this is the earliest possible time! 

For national long-term visas, the processing period is several weeks to three months, depending on the purpose of the trip. Processing may be delayed depending on whether the immigration office or the employment agency are involved in the visa process or not.

Good to know!: Syrian, Iraqi and Pakistani citizens have special rules for visa applications in Turkey for Germany!

Germany visa for Turks only with sufficient insurance cover!

Travel health insurance is required to get a visa from Turkey to Germany. Find an insurance coverage that is recognized by all diplomatic missions in the Schengen countries and offer you adequate insurance cover for your trip.

What does a visa from Turkey to Germany cost?

As a rule, a fee of 60 euros is required for issuing an adult visa. Visas for children under 12 are free of charge. The official service provider iData charges an additional service fee of 27.50 euros for all applicants aged 6 and over.

What do you need for an invitation from Turkey to Germany?

If it is a visitor visa or a business visa, an invitation letter is required. The invitation can be issued in simple written form. In the case of a business visa, the official letterhead must be used for the invitation letter and the letter must be stamped.
