4 symptoms that tell a vaccinated person they have a new corona infection

Even those who are fully vaccinated can become infected with SARS-CoV-2. The symptoms are not necessarily straightforward

People who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 can also become infected. An analysis of British data showed that the symptoms of vaccinated people differ significantly from those of unvaccinated people.

Which symptoms should vaccinated persons watch out for?

Infected people can log their symptoms in the UK’s ZOE Symptom Tracker app. Experts of the app analyzed the data of 2278 vaccinated adults who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and compared them with negative vaccinated and positive non-vaccinated adults. However, it is not known whether the data related to people after the first dose or after the full vaccination, reports the newspaper “The Sun”.

The infected vaccinees showed four main symptoms – reminiscent of a simple cold:

► sneezing
► headache
► a runny nose
► sore throat

The main symptoms of unvaccinated people are different. According to the reporting system of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), these include coughing, runny nose, fever and a disorder of the sense of smell and / or taste.

Covid-19 or hay fever?

Sneezing is usually not a common symptom of coronavirus. Unvaccinated people are more likely to have a cold or allergies. In people who have been vaccinated, however, it could possibly be a sign of Covid-19 rather than hay fever.

According to the experts on the tracker app, most people who were vaccinated would have mild symptoms. But: “Interestingly, our data show that people who were vaccinated and then tested positive for Covid-19 were more likely to report sneezing as a symptom than those without a vaccination. This suggests that this could be a sign of Covid-19. “

Adhere to hygiene rules despite vaccination

So anyone who is vaccinated and sneezes a lot for no apparent reason should take precautions to stop the virus from spreading further. The app experts remind you: “Sneezing spreads viruses.”

Sufferers should try to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or the inside of the elbow each time they cough and sneeze to minimize the spread of droplets. And avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth until you wash your hands.

The RKI also warns those who have been vaccinated not to ignore symptoms. “If the symptoms appear, vaccinated and unvaccinated people should definitely think about a SARS-Cov-2 infection, have this examined by a doctor and avoid contact (especially with vulnerable people) until diagnosis. Of course, the general AHA + L rules then apply in particular, ”counts an RKI spokeswoman.

Regarding the signs of infection, she explains: “In fully vaccinated Covid-19 cases, asymptomatic courses very often occur with an infection.” And even with symptomatic courses, the course forms are very often mild, usually with general symptoms such as cough, Runny nose, fever, or sore throat.

Virus transmission by vaccinated persons

It can be assumed that the viral load in people who are infected with SARS-CoV-2 despite being vaccinated is greatly reduced and the virus excretion is shortened, according to the Federal Center for Health Education. The risk of virus transmission is thereby very much reduced – but it is there.

The Israeli Ministry of Health caused a stir at the beginning of July: It announced that, due to the more aggressive Delta variant and many vaccinations that occurred further and further back in time, a double vaccination with the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine could only prevent an infection by 64 percent.

Even if other data show a significantly higher effectiveness, a decrease in effectiveness can be seen. This means that more people who have been vaccinated could soon become infected.
